The Witch’s Knot is a symbol of ‘knot magic,’ a practice used by witches during the Middle Ages. This type of knot, often scratched above doorways, served as protection against negative energy.

The design combines two powerful symbols: the circle, a universal representation, and the four-cornered knot, a Gaelic motif. The circle, drawn in a single, unbroken motion, has been used throughout history to symbolize many things—such as the sun, moon, planets, eternity, perfection, protection, and the universe itself.

The four-cornered Celtic knot holds its own deep meanings. It represents the four Gaelic seasonal festivals, the four Druidic gods who each preside over a quarter of the earth, and the four elements: earth, wind, fire, and water. It also symbolizes the four directions (north, south, east, west), the four seasons, and is tied to good luck, much like the four-leaf clover.
